Stefanie Brehm at work
Brehm’s ceramic columns collapse the porous wall between painting and sculpture: they are paintings in the round. Some are so small they can be held in one’s hands and turned over like a talisman. Others are monumental and the viewer must walk around them to see the colors and shapes on their surface.

Stefanie Brehm Work
“Stefanie Brehm's artistic work is primarily located in the material fields of ceramics and plastics. In both materials, the artist combines sculpture with painting. She uses dyed, liquid plastic as a colouring agent, which leads to the creation of a painting that no longer requires any image carrier. […]”

Stefanie Brehm in an interview with Isabelle Haupt
In harmony with herself and her art - Stefanie Brehm is ARTIMA's sponsored artist 2022. "Stefanie Brehm has a way of making you feel quite calm and positive. When she talks, she laughs a lot and it becomes clear that she has found her center and does what she likes best: [...]" read more on Artima-Blog

Stefanie Brehm in an interview with Katja Andreae
“As an artist, I work on an introspective basis” – Interview by Katja Andreae with Stefanie Brehm. “Stefanie Brehm describes her work as a penetration of materials. She focuses on forms and colours and less on messages of a political nature. Nevertheless, daily observations find their way into her work in a very personal manner, in the form of sound and action. Catalog essay by Ranti Tjan
“Brehm’s Columns” by Ranti Tjan. “There is a photo of Stefanie Brehm in which she is working in a studio in the Netherlands, standing on a jetty, a large column in front of her. The photo is not special, except that it reveals that Brehm makes the substrates for her paintings herself. Just as many painters stretch their own canvasses, Brehm makes hers out of clay. […]”

Catalog essay by Dr. Kirschenmann
“On the bliss of colour on columns, or how Stefanie Brehm breathes life into basic forms” by Dr. Kirschenmann. “It was 22 metres long, and securely suspended from the façade of the Munich art academy, a large, formidable plait made of white bubble wrap – Rapunzel might have left it there on a brief visit to the English Garden. At the time, art student Stefanie Brehm looked on smilingly, poised and engaged as ever. Surprising people with her art, leaving them to work out its meaning with a mischievous air, always brings a smile to her lips. She certainly succeeds in this by continuously playing with form, adding a well-considered element of colour. […]”

“Stefanie Brehm's Celebrations of Color” by John Yau. “I first met Stefanie Brehm in 2013 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where she was a student in the class of my friend Norbert Prangenberg (1949-2012). During our conversation I learned that she and her family had recently been in Chile and that they were planning on going there again as her husband had family there. […]”

Glazed columns before and after glaze firing
Notwithstanding an initial reluctance to settle on a particular material, colours play a key role on or in all of the materials she uses as they sort of blend into the material. Form and colour, sculpture and painting form a whole. The vibrancy of the colours is enhanced by the brilliant surface of a glaze or plastic.

Monograph – Stefanie Brehm Works
The artist catalogue represents with selected works my work of 2016-2020. As part of the catalogue sponsorship of the Berufsverband Bildender Künstler Mittelfranken (BBK), in collaboration with Wildner+Designer I realised this extensive and high-quality catalogue. It was presented at the end of September 2020 as part of the debutants’ exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Nuremberg.
